The sword that was found next to Tipu Sultan’s body after his death

HIstory :

<ins><ins></ins></ins> Tipu Sultan (1750-1799) was the de-facto ruler of the Kingdom of Mysore. He is better known as the ‘Tiger of Mysore’. His full name was Sultan Fateh Ali Tippu and he was born on 20th November, 1750 at Devanahalli, in present-day Kolar district, near Bangalore, India. He is the eldest son of Hyder Ali and Fakhr-un-nissa (Fatima Begum). Tipu ascended the throne of his father after his death in 1782, following the Second Mysore War, to then rule the Kingdom of Mysore. Tipu Sultan was a benevolent and instrumental leader, whose constant valiant efforts against the British oppression in southern India resulted in his name being etched in the annals of Indian history.

Since his childhood, Tipu Sultan pursued his strong interests in academics and various languages. Besides being well-educated Tippu was also adept as a soldier, learning the art of warfare, at the young age of 15, by attending numerous military campaigns, accompanying his father. He was also a devout Muslim who accepted other religions as well, contrary to certain theories describing him as a religious persecutor of Hindus and Christians. Tipu worked hard for the welfare of his subjects and his numerous contributions include his construction of roads, building tanks and dams, several ports along the shoreline, fortifying numerous palaces and forts, promoting overseas trade, commerce and increase in agricultural output.

Tipu Sultan, with his dignified personality and simple lifestyle was more than just an ordinary leader. He was greatly respected by his people and earned the trust of various international allies such as the French, the Amir of Afghanistan and the Sultan of Turkey, to assist him in his fight against the British. Tipu Sultan was the founder-member of the ‘Jacobin Club’ that served allegiance to the French. A true patriot like his father, Tipu visualized the forthcoming danger of the expanding British’s East India Company. Tipu and his father Haidar Ali proved successful in defeating the British in the First Mysore War in 1766 and in the Second Mysore War of 1782, thus negotiating the Treaty of Mangalore with them. While the British became aware of Tipu’s growing strength, they made alliances with the neighboring Nizam of Hyderabad and the Marathas, leading to the Third Anglo-Mysore war in 1790. Despite signing the Treaty of Versailles, the French however deserted Tipu and the combined forces proved immense for Tipu, and he was defeated in this war at his capital of Seringapatam, thus forcing him to sign a treaty in 1792 that witnessed half of his kingdom being confiscated along with a huge war indemnity. After the British broke allegiance with the Nawab, eventually defeating him in 1795, they once again sought to attack Mysore, leading to the Fourth Anglo-Mysore war in 1798. Tipu, being an able military strategist was prepared this time with his longstanding and successful military tactic of rocket artillery in war and a better army to thwart his adversaries. Fighting with all his valor, Tipu Sultan eventually died defending his capital Srirangapattana on 4th May, 1799. Tipu Sultan is buried alongside his father and mother, in a mausoleum built by him in 1784, known as ‘Gumbaz’, in his capital city of Srinagapattana.

Besides Tipu’s grand legacy, he also left behind royal memoirs that include his exquisitely ornamented weaponry, the mechanical ‘Tippu’s tiger’, his golden ‘tiger-head’ throne, Tipu’s coinage, as well as the famous engraved royal ‘Sword of Tipu Sultan’ which he fiercely possessed until after he breathed his last. The majestic Sword has even undergone numerous international possession controversies, to finally being brought back to India for public display by industrialist-politician Vijay Mallya, after nearly two centuries. The royal sword even has numerous documentaries and television serials created after it that portray the life of Tipu Sultan. Also famous is Tipu’s construction of the ‘Daria Daulat Bagh’, his summer palace, which is now a national monument and a tourist hotspot. Tipu Sultan’s patriotic spirit burned brightly within the hearts of future Indian freedom fighters, paving the path for overthrowing the British Rule in the years to come.

Tripadvisor.com is a site dedicated to providing travel tips and advice to people preparing for trips all over the world. The site consists of online database of information and opinions from fellow travelers. Tripadvisor prides itself on providing “unscripted and honest conversation between travelers.” The site delivers by providing users with advice, opinions and helpful information to meet all their travel needs.

The site layout is simple. A search bar at the top of the homepage allows the user a place to direct any general inquiries concerning their travel objectives and needs. The central feature of the homepage is the “Plan the Perfect Trip” box in the middle of the page. The box prompts the user to select one of six trip categories: hotels, flights, restaurants, things to do, cruises and forums. For an example, we checked out hotels for a trip to Buffalo, New York assuming we were heading for a football game. Ten hotels popped up, complete with Tripadvisor rankings, rates and user reviews. With one click, a user can obtain the current rates and contact information for the hotel they are considering.

The “things to do” section is another great feature of Tripadvisor. After typing in your destination, you’ll find an array of links to the most popular activities in the city you are reviewing. Travelers with children will certainly want to consider this feature to determine how “kid friendly” a city is. Overall, the site is very simple to use, even for the computer novice. Homepage use is self-explanatory and well constructed. Subsequent pages are very similar to the homepage with the exception of additional advertisements.

One feature that is a must-see is the user forums. The forums are divided up by country and state or province. In the New York forum, users can be found discussing topics like the best pizza in New York City to the best ticket deals for Broadway tickets.

If you have a travel question, check out the “ask a question” feature under the “quick links” at the bottom left of the homepage.

The site navigates easily, but frequent pop-up ads are quite annoying. The other drawback to the site is an overload of information. Tripadvisor is filled with links to the point that the user is almost overwhelmed with information splashed all over the page. On the other hand, the wealth and quality of feedback from fellow travelers is invaluable. Users can learn about other people’s experiences firsthand and get helpful information that will make their trip more enjoyable.

Forbes.com describes itself as the “homepage for the world’s business leaders. The site is professionally designed and fairly user-friendly, though not easy to navigate. This is largely because the homepage is huge, taking up three or four screens. This can be overwhelming to the beginning user.

However, getting acquainted with the intricacies of the site is worth your time. Forbes.com is a tremendous resource of the latest business and economic news from around the globe.

The homepage is filled with equal parts content and advertising. Most of the ads are located on the right side of the homepage, so they’re fairly easy to avoid. The site’s homepage is where you’ll find everything. The center of the page contains links to all the latest business news, stock quotes and most popular stories currently on the site.

The navigation bar at the top of the page contains links to business news, market happenings, and personal finance and opinion pieces.

Users can register and then set up their own personal financial portfolios right on the site.

Some of the best content on the site are the feature stories. They are well-written and provide a glimpse into the inner workings of the financial world. You can find them divided by topic halfway down the homepage on the left side.

The website features an awesome search function. Users can set the search to find stock quotes, news, videos and blogs. There’s even an advanced feature that lets you hone in on a very specific topic not generally found on the basic search.

Users can also sign up to receive a free copy of the Forbes magazine by filling out your name and address.

One of the most interesting parts of Forbes.com is the “Forbeslife” tab on the navigation bar. It takes you to compelling stories about how the economy and business world impact every sector of our daily life. This is a must see; the writing is outstanding and the stories are something you won’t find on other sites.

The new user has to take their time with Forbes.com. It’s a bit congested, especially on the homepage. Thankfully, the content is organized and the beginning user can use the search function if they want to bypass the information overload. Although the site may be a bit crowded, it more than makes up for it with tremendous content and special features.

We have seen some of the Social Networking Websites till now. Here i am gonna discuss some of the Social Networks which can connect with your friends.

PERFSPOT.COM :

Social networking websites are the most popular and also the most competitive ones on the internet. To join the competition, perfspot.com was launched in March 2007.

It is almost like any social networking site where you can find old, lost friends, be in touch with your friends, upload videos and photos. It is a platform to share interests and favorite things.

Features

The users can register her for free and open an account. Users can customize their profile page, called the Perflife page, in terms of theme, background and color. Customizing a profile is easier on this site than MySpace. In your personal information, you can change the URL and so you can have your own webpage. The URL requires the username and for that you will have to check the availability of that name. There is a Refined User search which can display users from any specific area. Users can click on the Region section of the network in User search and add your region there.

At perflife, users can write blogs, upload birthday, party pictures. The Main section of perflife has the most dynamic content, full of activity. For the rest, there is an Extra section. There is an exhaustive list of the number of applications and games to choose from for your profile page.

Webmessenger 2 is the IM, which offers real time connectivity to the users which s so vital for a social networking site. Perfspot also has updates on music front; latest album reviews, music videos and users can see their favorite bands.

In 2008, Perfspot launched their new photo sharing feature which raised the number of visit for the site. Here, users can view photos in slide-show format. The photos are enlarged form regardless of the original size of uploaded photos. This feature is not available in other networking sites. Photo comments can be written in diverse color and fonts and not the usual plain text as in other sites. Spot is like tagging where you spot other Perfspot members in the photo and even those members are notified.

Perfrating is when users rate a friend’s photo. Initially the number of albums that could be displayed on the profile page used to be 3 now it has increased to 5.

Grapevine is another popular feature of this site which tells users about the latest news on their friend’s page. It updates information about pictures, groups that the friend has joined. The new version of grapevine has given it an uncluttered look. A filter option is also given so you can choose what newsfeed to view. Interest groups are a place to be in touch with like minded people. When any new member joins an interest group that you are a part of, you receive an indication on your perflife page.

There is a store where users can sell stuff online.

Tips and tricks

Through out the site, there are four types of security settings for everything like; for only me, for best friends, for friends and for everyone. You can secure your personal information. Perflife page privacy setting allows the users to choose what their friends and others can see and what they can not.

LOADINGVAULT.COM

A search engine made especially for searching files in sites dedicated to sharing and uploading. This search engine works great with sites like RapidShare, MegaUpload, Uploading, SendSpace, and FileFactory. The website is an extremely active one with daily updates to its database. This website is popular with all those who want to look for files in a shared environment.

Features

The database of file links on the LoadingVault website is updated everyday. This ensures that the file links are rectified of errors, if any. Moreover, the website gives a lot of flexibility to its users. Users have the flexibility to voice their concerns on search results, if any. You can also become a member of the LoadingVault community. By becoming a member of this community, you can add file links to the ever-expanding database. Members communicate with each other over files and the search service.

The LoadingVault website enables two kinds of search: one on the web and another among the files submitted by users. Apart from this, the website provides two different options for filtering the search results. One option is filtering based on the type of the file whereas the other option is based on the sharing website you are searching in.

The website’s Contact Us form is simple, thereby making it easy for visitors to post their queries.

Tips and Tricks

Given the simplicity of the website structure, one does not need to explore much. Thus there are no tips or tricks about browsing this website. The best way to avail all the features of the website is by becoming a member of its community.

If you want to go back to a recent search of yours, you do not need to perform the search all over again. The home page of the website lists the last 200 searches, making it simple for you to go back to a recent search.

XML and HTML are different and they both have different goals.

They are designed for different purposes. Some people think that

xml is an advanced version of html and it has come to replace html.

It is not the case. Both will be there as they are used for different purposes.

XML files are meant to hold data and data in an xml file is well described.

If you look at an xml file you can say what it holds. For example if you find

a number in an xml file you can find out easily what that number identifies,

whether it is the number of products, or the price of a product etc. In html

it is not the case.

HTML is used to display the data in a formatted way. You can apply styles

and use different layouts to display the data in an html file. The data that is

displayed in an html file could come from an xml file.

So to say in simple words, html displays the data and xml holds the data!

History

The Salarjung Museum is the third largest museum in India housing the biggest one-man collections of antiques in the world. It is well known throughout India for its prized collections belonging to different civilizations dating back to the 1st century. Nawab Mir Yousuf Ali Khan Salar Jung III (1889-1949), former Prime Minister of the seventh Nizam of Hyderabad, spent a substantial amount of his income over thirty five years to make this priceless collection, his life’s passion. The collections left behind in his ancestral palace, ‘Diwan Deodi’ were formerly exhibited there as a private museum which was inaugurated by Jawaharlal Nehru in 1951. Old timers believe that the present collection constitutes only half of the original art wealth collected by Salar Jung III. His employees siphoned off part of it, since Salar Jung was a bachelor and depended upon his staff to keep a vigil. Some more art pieces were lost or stolen during the shifting of the museum from Dewan Devdi to the present site. [1] Later in 1968, the museum shifted to its present location at Afzalgunj and is administered by a Board of Trustees with the Governor of Andhra Pradesh as ex-officio chairperson under the Salar Jung Museum Act of 1961.

5. ALCATRAZ ISLAND (USA): home to the first lighthouse on the Pacific Coast

Alcatraz Island (sometimes informally referred to as simply Alcatraz or by its pop-culture name, The Rock) is a small island located in the middle of San Francisco Bay in California, United States. It served as a lighthouse, then a military fortification, then a military prison followed by a federal prison until 1963, when it became a national recreation area. The first European to discover the island was Juan de Ayala in 1775, who charted the San Francisco Bay and named the island “La Isla de los Alcatraces”, which means “Island of the Pelicans”.

The discovery of gold in California in 1848 brought thousands of ships to San Francisco Bay, creating an urgent need for a navigational lighthouse. In response, Alcatraz lighthouse #1 was erected and lit in the summer of 1853. Because of its natural isolation in the middle of a bay, surrounded by cold water and strong sea currents, Alcatraz was soon considered by the U.S. Army as an ideal location for holding captives. Alcatraz was the Army’s first long-term prison, and it was already beginning to build its reputation as a tough detention facility by exposing inmates to harsh conditions and iron fisted discipline. Due to rising operational costs because of its location, the Military Department decided to close this famous prison in 1934, and it was subsequently taken over by the Department of Justice and later became the famous federal prision and finally a recreation area.

4. EASTER ISLAND (Polynesian triangle, Chile): world heritage site and one of the most isolated inhabited islands in history

Easter Island is one of the world’s most isolated inhabited islands. It is 3,600 km (2,237 miles) west of continental Chile and 2,075 km (1,290 miles) east of Pitcairn. Nowdays, it is a Chilean-governed island, and is a world heritage site with much of the island protected by the Rapa Nui National Park.

First settled by a small party of Polynesians, Easter Island is one of the youngest inhabited territories on Earth, and for most of its history it was the most isolated inhabited territory on Earth. Its inhabitants the Rapanui have endured famines, epidemics, civil war, slave raids and colonialism; have seen their population crash on more than one occasion, and created a cultural legacy that has brought them fame out of all proportion to their numbers.

3. SEALAND (Principality): World’s smallest island

The Principality of Sealand is an island and a micronation located on HM Fort Roughs, a former Maunsell Sea Fort located in the North Sea 10 km (six miles) off the coast of Suffolk, England, in what is claimed as territorial waters using a twelve-nautical-mile radius.

Since 1967, the installation has been occupied by associates and family of Paddy Roy Bates, a former radio broadcaster and former British Army Major, who claims that it is a sovereign and independent state. Critics, as well as court rulings in the United States and in Germany, have claimed that Roughs Tower has always remained the property of the United Kingdom, a view that is disputed by the Bates family. The population of the facility rarely exceeds ten, and its habitable area is 550 m2 (5920 sq ft).

Sealand’s claims to sovereignty and legitimacy are not recognised by any country, yet it is sometimes cited in debates as an interesting case study of how various principles of international law can be applied to a territorial dispute.

2. SURTSEY (Iceland): The emerging island

Off the coast of Iceland on the morning of 14 November 1963, the crew of a lone fishing trawler spotted an alarming sight. Off to the southwest of the Ísleifur II, a column of dark smoke was rising from the water. Concerned that it could be another boat on fire, the captain directed his vessel towards the scene. Once there, however, they found not a boat but a series of violent explosions producing ash. This was an unmistakable indication of a volcanic eruption taking place underwater, close to the surface. Very aware of the potential danger but eager to watch, the crew kept their boat nearby. It was indeed a remarkable event that they would witness a small part of over the course of that morning: the formation of a brand-new island.

Although now quite visible, the eruption lasted for much, much longer than the Ísleifur II would have been able to watch. After several days, the volcano had broken the water’s surface, forming an island over 500 meters long and 45 meters tall. Even though the rough tides of the North Atlantic might have soon eroded the new island away, it was named Surtsey, meaning ‘Surtur’s island’ – Surtur (or Surtr) being a fire giant of Norse mythology. The island proved to be tenacious, however. The eruption was ongoing and Surtsey increased in size more quickly than the ocean could wear it down. In the meantime two other nearby volcanic eruptions produced the beginnings of islands, but neither lasted very long. By April 1964, though, the most violent parts of the eruption were over and Surtsey remained.

1. GUNKANJIMA (Japan): the Ghost (and forbidden) Island

Gunkanjima is one among 505 uninhabited islands in the Nagasaki Prefecture about 15 kilometers from Nagasaki itself. The island was populated from 1887 to 1974 as a coal mining facility. The island’s most notable features are the abandoned concrete buildings and the sea wall surrounding it. It is known for its coal mines and their operation during the industrialization of Japan. Mitsubishi bought the island in 1890 and began the project, the aim of which was retrieving coal from the bottom of the sea. They built Japan’s first large concrete building, a block of apartments in 1916 to accommodate their burgeoning ranks of workers, and to protect against typhoon destruction.

In 1959, its population density was 835 people per hectare for the whole island, or 1,391 per hectare for the residential district, one of the highest population density ever recorded worldwide. As petroleum replaced coal in Japan in the 1960s, coal mines began shutting down all over the country, and Hashima’s mines were no exception. Mitsubishi officially announced the closing of the mine in 1974, and today it is empty and bare, which is why it’s called the Ghost Island. Travel to Hashima is currently prohibited.

Everyone seems to be talking about XML Next few weeks.

what are people actually using XML for? It’s one thing to learn

how to use XML, but what for? Here are some common uses

for XML on the Web right now:

Web Development

Documentation

Database Development

XML in Web-Development :

In a way, you could argue that this is the most widespread use of XML, as XHTML.

Because XHTML is simply HTML 4.0 reworked, many HTML 4.0 sites are actually

using an invalid form of XHTML.

But the benefit of XML is not that it already exists as XHTML,

but that you can create Web documents from XML using XSLT to

transform your documents into HTML. You can then send your XML

to an XSLT processor on the Web server and serve that result to the

Web browser. This makes your documentation available in whatever

format you need it to be in.

XML in Documentation

Many companies are moving to XML to write their internal documentation.

The most common XML platform for this is docbook. The advantage of XML

for documentation is that it can be used to define the common traits in books,

magazines, stories, advertisements, and so forth. And DocBook already has that

type of information defined.

The best thing about XML for documentation is that the XML is easy to understand

for humans, both of the actual documentation, but also the XML code surrounding it.

XML can be used for any type of documentation, from a publishing house to Marketing materials.

XML and Database Development

Databases are a natural use for XML, because XML is all about data.

Unlike XML for documentation, XML for databases does not need to be

inherently human readable. The data is simply written in such a way to

allow machines to read it and make it accessible to a database.

Here i am giving some of the good sites about XML.

www.finetuning.com
FineTuning.com is a new budding site which shows signs of progressing with time.

It has technical documentation on xml but has a long way to go before becoming

a really good site

www.projectcool.com

This is a good site for the end developer. May not be on par with Devx.com.

but definitely a close competitor as far as the technical programmer is concerned.

It has a really huge code library and good information even for a beginner.

www.perfectxml.com
This site has a good code library.

www.goxml.com
GoXML.com brings you an integrated solution to information distribution,

management and application.

www.xml.com
This is a more business oriented site, not really the best site for a person

who wants to learn xml development. It gives us an idea of how wonderfully

these concepts are being used in today’s world, where anything from web services

like Microsoft passport to data mapping between legacy systems is made feasible.

DevX.com
DevX.com is the perfect site for software professionals developing software using

Microsoft technology. It has a rich package of source code, which makes it a special

blend of theory and practical knowledge. DevX.com is the ultimate site for the

hard core Microsoft application developer.

w3 schools

Everything you need to create dynamic web sites is available at the w3 schools site.

It clearly explains the basics of XML and shows both non programmers and web developers

how to create effective XML documents and display them on the web.

w3 schools is the best site for a beginner looking to developing his skills as a developer using

Microsoft side technology.
